Barbarian
by Glen Armstrong
In my stead, I sent a hero
in a loincloth with a sword,
whose prayers were all blasphemous
but beautiful to hear,
and I sent him to the supermarket
to buy eggs and Sharpies
and to notice the tattoos
on the young ladies’ bodies,
(and if he noticed more than that,
I would plead, on his behalf,
the sort of insanity that ensues
after too much battle.)
