All Because of a Song
by Punyajit Mishra
The parrot sang a strange, new song,
and gathered himself an interested throng -
all with a rather uncanny intent:
To ask for rent on seven red tents.
The tents were for a cat and dog,
as well as a spiky hedgehog,
along with a monkey, a deer,
and a fierce-looking but friendly bear.
The last tenant was a giraffe
but his long neck caused his head to chaff
with the smooth wedge-top of the tent,
so he had to stand with his neck bent!
The animals camped for ten days and ten nights.
Then they broke into quarrels and fights,
and each went their own separate ways,
and somehow returned on the same day.
