Rant
By Francisco Fenn
Grammar is the enemy of poetry.
It speaks ridicule
And mummifies the natural way of speech.
What rhymes with poetry?
A week’s schedule
Is insufficient a length of time to breach
Such a hazardous subject.
The Grammar police would up and kill me
Before the chance to object
Presented itself with enough………alacrity.
My sentences often have air holes.
That’s the way they are meant to breathe;
Without it the words would go stale and cold,
Infested with gophers and mould
And the punctuation points would be late,
And the syntax would be in sin,
The active verbs would continually berate
……..my next of kin
Until they were blue in the face
And I know that late and face do not rhyme,
But I can’t be expected to rhyme all the time
Now can I?
Humans weren’t built for that.
What does rhyme with poetry?
….Drat.
