An interview with
Daniel J. Flore III
What is, in your opinion, the best thing (or your favourite thing) that you’ve ever written? Tell us about it.
I wrote a small book called “Lapping Water.” It was all poems and there’s a certain melancholy to it that I like. Classical Blues is how I would describe it. I don’t know if it’s the best thing I’ve ever written but I’m definitely proud of it.
Who are your favourite writers, and what influences your writing?
Bukowski, Rimbaud, Kerouac, Ginsberg, Mary Oliver, Billy Collins to name a few.
Stationary influences my writing. I never miss going to the stationary aisle at a store (if they have one) and staring at the pens and notebooks. It just really gets me in the mood to start writing.
What are your hobbies?
Watching baseball. Reading. Star Wars.
Describe yourself as if you are a character in one of your own stories / poems.
there’s ink in his bloodstream
he just needs a little prick
Tell us something crazy.
I once woke up and for like 45 seconds couldn’t figure out that it was my wife sleeping next to me. This is after 7 years of marriage. I couldn’t figure out who she was! Who is this person sleeping next to me?? It was very weird.
What’s the weirdest question you’ve ever been asked in an interview? And what did you answer?
The one before this one.
What is your writing set-up? (E.g your garden shed, a cafe etc) and are there any things you must have to get the words to flow, e.g a lucky hat or a favourite shirt?
II write just about anywhere. I do have a desk but it’s covered with crap right now. Gotta clean it up. I miss it. I don’t have anything lucky to get the words to flow. I’m not superstitious.
